When you file & submit ITR online, a document ITR-V is generated. This form is an acknowledgement by tax department that your ITR is submitted. Now to complete the process, one needs to e-verify ITR V.

  • What is ITR-V?

ITR-V is a one-page acknowledgement form which stands for Income Tax Return Verification. It acts as a proof that return has been filed with the income tax department.

 

  • I forgot to send ITR-V. What should I do?

If you do not get ITR V verified online then you can also send it to IT department by post. If you fail to do so then return will be considered as incomplete. In that case, you’ll have to file a fresh tax return as if you have never filed one.

 

  • ITR-V status rejected. What does it mean?

Sometimes it may happen that your ITR V is rejected. The reason can either be poor quality of ITR V or missing signature etc. If ITR V is rejected then you’ll receive a notification via e-mail & SMS (on registered mobile number).

If the time limit to verify ITR V hasn’t lapsed then you can simply print new form & post it to CPC, Bangalore.

 

  • What is ITR-V speed post address?

You can send ITR V form for verification to CPC, Bangalore via post. The address is “Income Tax Department – CPC, Post Box No 1, Electronic City Post Office, Bangalore – 560100, Karnataka, India”.

You can send post using regular Indian Postal Service or Speed Post (courier is not accepted).

 

  • How can I download ITR-V?

It is very easy to download ITR V. Simply visit Income Tax Efiling website & log-in to your account. Select option “View Returns/Forms” & you’ll be shown all ITRs filed. To download form, click on Acknowledgement Number & there you’ll see text “ITR V”. Simply click on it & your form will start downloading.

 

  • What if I don’t submit ITR-V within 120 days?

If you don’t submit & verify ITR V within 120 days of filing, then your return will be considered as not filed. In this case, you will have to file a fresh ITR.

 

  • How to e verify ITR-V?

  • How to check ITR-V status online?

Log-in to your account at e filing website. Click option “View Returns /Forms” & select the type of return. Now all your ITRs will be visible & here under 8th tab “Status” will be shown.

No, every correspondence to CPC has to be done online only. The only exception is ITR-V form by post for e verification.
