Chanda Kochhar is India’s Most Powerful Woman in 2017

Ms. Chanda Kochhar , a celebrated and a prominent name in the Banking sector of India who is �the CEO and Managing Director of ICICI Bank �ranked 32nd in World’s 100 Most Powerful Women list by Forbes. In her decades long association with the bank, Kochhar has played a pivotal part in restructuring ICICI from a corporate bank to retail bank.

Chanda was born in Jodhpur and brought up in Jaipur. She is a well-educated woman and she has played a major role in shaping the retail banking in the country. She is smart, talented and a role model for many women. She is also a great leader and under her supervision the bank has won recognition across the globe. It was her sharp strategic planning which made the ICICI bank the ‘Best Retail Bank in India’ for five consecutive years.

Chanda started her career with the ICICI bank as a management trainee in the year 1984 and she handled and evaluated different projects like paper, cement and textile. In the year 1993, Kocchar was appointed as a permanent member of the team who were responsible for setting up the bank. After which she was �promoted as the general manager in the year 1994 and then in 1996 as the deputy general manager. She even handled the newly formed group of ICICI, which focused on Infrastructure and it aimed to create expertise in �different areas like power, transportation and telecom. Later in the year 1998, she was promoted as the General Manager. The strategy and E-commerce division of the bank was handled by her as well. Later she shifted her focus to the digital banking, where her main focus was on the use of technology, innovation, expansion and distribution.�

In 2001 she was appointed the executive director and in 2006 she became the deputy-managing director of the company. In 2007-08, she became the JMD and CFO of the bank.Just after a year in the year 2009, she became the MD and CEO of the company.�Chanda is also the deputy chairperson of the Indian Bank Association and is also on the boards of Indian Council for Research of International Finance. She has also been the member of the Prime Minister�s council on trade and industry.

Chanda Kocchar is one of the most successful and a powerful businesswoman in the country and has achieved several laurels in her career one of which being �in the list of 50 most influential people in global finance list and has been awarded with ASSOCHAM ladies league. She was also awarded with ABLF Woman of Power Award. She currently ranks 40 in the list of High and Mighty Power List. She has also received the Padma Bhusan Award. Ms. Kochhar even received an honorary doctorate from Carleton University, Canada in the year 2014 for her work in the financial sector,�effective leadership and support for business practice.
